Here at CrossFit Southern Highlands we believe that health is more than fitness.
It’s about good basic nutrition, quality of sleep, hydration, mobility and flexibility and working toward a longer happier life. It’s also about enjoying where you train and the people you train with. It’s about relating to the coaches in front of you and feeling like it’s a place you belong.
These things are super important to us and it’s what sets us apart from other gyms. When you come to a CrossFit class at CFSoHi you’re always greeted by name, not only by your coach but by the your fellow athletes. You complete your session with others who are genuinely interested in you as a person and care about how your day has been. We know your kids, we know what you do for a living and we care about what’s happening in your life, especially the stuff that might affect your health.
The coaches are people just like you. We come from all walks of life, because of this we bring a huge array of knowledge and perspective to each class we teach. Coaches share a common bond through this as we believe we can learn just as much from each other as we can from any text book. Here are your CFSoHi Coaches and what they bring to our facility.
Head Coach Dave : Our WODfather is the head of Coaching and programming for our facility and brings a literal fire bomb to each and every session under his watchful eye. Coach D is a former Fire and Rescue NSW member which allows him to offer some extreme scenarios where health and fitness has been seen to be the difference between life or serious injury/death. Coach D also has another perspective in his arsenal this being that he is a sufferer of Crohn’s disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis at just 31 years old. From these two conditions he shows us just what is capable with a strong and willing mind, how we can pursue our goals through, at times, tumultuous adversity and become the very best we can be. Inspiration through preparation is the Coach D way, if you want to find a way through the hardest of sessions, most technical of movements and have fun along the way take a Coach D class. A passion that lies behind every Coach Dave class is his love for teaching, Dave is our resident lecturer taking not only CrossFit classes but regularly presenting workshops and seminars on the most advanced CrossFit movements taking the time to break it all down to basic components to help us all achieve greatness in true Coach D style. You will leave the seminars with a head full of knowledge and a belly full of laughs. His coaching style is loud! Boisterous and an energetic he will lead by example and make you truly believe that your mind controls your actions.
Coach and Gym manager Naomi : Coach N to most, Nomsie to some. Coach N is one of the most experienced fitness professionals you are likely to come across, not only that she is a recent grandmother to little Lacey Willow the daughter of her daughter Rachel and husband Mark. Twenty plus years of knowledge is what Naomi brings to all classes she teaches, this is an unparalleled experience to those ‘new’ to fitness as Coach N is our queen of scaling movements and weights to be appropriate to the very newest of members as well as the foresight of knowing exactly what our experienced participants are truly capable of.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes the the knowledge Coach N brings to the facility. As a qualified sports/remedial massage therapist and nutritionist Naomi has an almost x-ray like vision when watching you train. She can see what potential there is for better movement, where we are restricted in our movements and if we have hydrated and fueled our bodies appropriately for our class. If we have not done those things or have been doing our mobility homework she will produce a truly frightening mum voice one of which all of CFSoHi have witnessed at some stage. A session with Naomi is fun and light hearted and a true learning experience in which you will always coming away from feeling better and more empowered than when it begun. Coach Andrew : A true professional. Coach A has been a godsend to the community of CFSoHi, he brings a willingness to make you better that is unparalleled. Each and every class with Coach A is a complete group experience. He brings years of team sporting knowledge to his sessions which genuinely makes you feel like you are preparing for battle as the call of 3-2-1 GO is signaling the beginning of the workout. Yet Coach A remains calm and completely level headed as his unwavering Coach eyes take a grip on the room, not a single movement goes unseen and any faults we may have are addressed immediately. A man of pure understanding is what Coach A will bring to your class, as a young first homebuyer with his girlfriend Hannah, he gives a larger perspective on time management which helps all members to prioritise time for themselves and see the value of ME time. Need help with flexibility, improving your weight lifting positions or just a friendly face to support you through your workout Coach A is your man. From humble beginnings in engineering Andrew knew something was not right in his world, he had a passion and desire to teach fitness and threw himself head first into this pursuit of becoming a leader in the industry. Coach A is your every man. He is strong and capable as one of the fittest humans you will ever meet, but as humble as they come Andrew will always work towards making you his priority each and every time your step into the gym. Coach A is the epitome of the phrase ‘ the community’s Coach. We love him.
Coach Sian : Code named ‘The Every Woman,’ Sian is YOU. She comes into CrossFit with a passion for sports, athletics, hockey, gymnastics and running.Sian’s varied background is part of what gives Coach S and amazing ability to bring the best out of us all. Sian is not only a new mum to her first child (Owen) but she is also PREGNANT (congratulations Coach S). Sian takes setting a good example for future generations to the next level, bringing her son to each and every class she participates in to show him that the health and fitness lifestyle is one of upmost importance as well as bringing her unborn child into this world through the same path, proving to all that exercise, fitness, health and wellness SHOULD be a part of pregnancy for those who are able to safely join in on sessions. Coach S has a wonderful perspective as a teacher inside the CrossFit gym, she is a practicing physiotherapist working in the hospital system. Sian has seen and heard it all, she will use her magic powers to see things about your body that even the greatest of coaches might miss, her description of movements, mobility and training are unparalleled. A class taken by Coach S is one you will walk away from, not only feeling better about yourself, but knowing more about yourself than you ever thought you could. From beginners to the most advanced CrossFit members Sian has a solution to the problems you didn’t even know you had, making a class with Sian one of the most valuable things you could do for yourself.
